India – A Traveler’s View

In my years living and working in India I have learned that there are two types of travelers who visit India: those that love it unconditionally, and those that hate it equally. While waiting to depart India tourists have told me, “It was the best vacation of my life!” to hear only minutes later from another, “It’s the worst place I’ve ever been to.”

For first time travelers to India it does take some time to adjust. Many are uncomfortable with the in-your-face poverty that never seems to end. Others absolutely love the chaos, deep traditions, and colorful culture.

The advice I give to people is that it will get better, and that no culture is as unique as this one. That once you look beyond the dirt and dust, you’ll see a beautiful, hard working people, rich culture and exquisite cuisine.
